I get tired of writing posts like this. I was trying avoid writing another post like this, which is why I haven’t written anything in a while. I would love to write about them being playoff contenders, better yet, Super Bowl champions, but right now, unfortunately, that’s not the case.
After a 2-3 start, which was much better than last year, it looked as if things might’ve been different, it looked as if they were gradually turning things around, but I should’ve known better. Two weeks ago, they gave a winless Miami Dolphins their first victory, and made them look like a playoff contender, and followed it up with another loss against the Raiders last week.
I hate to say this, and I was trying to give him chance because I like (head coach) Aaron Glenn--although that was as a player--and I wanted to see him do it, I wanted to see him turn this around, but it’s time for him to go. Give the interim job to Frank Reich or whoever is next in line, since they apparently don’t have an assistant head coach.
It’s not working out with Geno Smith, and it’s not all on him, but now at 2-6, at this point, I say pull him and let’s see what Cade Klubnik can do. What do they have to lose? This is sickening. Enough with this. One of the few bright spots of this season so far is that they finally intercepted a pass, after going the entire season last year without an interception.
It's not lack of talent. This team features a nucleus young, upcoming players such Omar Cooper Jr., Kenyon Sadiq, when healthy, and David Bailey. I'm not saying Super Bowl or bust, but this team has more talent than it did last year, and they still can't get it done.
As far as who I would like as a coaching candidate, the ones who come to mind are Mike Tomlin or Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, whom I think got a raw deal when he was in Miami. I wouldn’t mind giving Rex Ryan another chance. He openly offered his services when the Jets head coaching was open a couple of years ago. I know that was the 2010s and things have changed since then, but the last time the Jets had any success, he was the head coach.
Sean McDermott is another coach I wouldn't mind giving a try. Despite his fallout in Buffalo last season, he's had plenty of success, he just couldn't get them to the big game (i.e., the Super Bowl). Maybe some time off, which is what he's doing now, and a change of scenery will do him some good. With a few more additions--I know I sound as if it's the off-season, but I'm looking ahead--this team isn't far away from being a contender. I just think they need the right guy to get them to the next level.
